Mondragón Unibertsitatea is an independent university organised as a non-profit-making, public-service oriented mixed co-operative. It is based in the heart of the Basque Country, where it has been providing courses since 1943, reviving the tradition of the former Oñati university, which was founded in 1542.
It is from Mondragón Unibertsitatea that the seeds of the Mondragón co-operative movement emerged. Grouped around Mondragón Corporación Cooperativa (MCC) this movement now runs Spain's biggest private industrial group.
From its beginnings, Mondragón Unibertsitatea has set out to offer the best service to society. Indeed, in 1995 it became the first university in Spain to obtain an ISO 9001 quality certificate.
LThe close links between its centres of learning and research and major industrial and service sector companies, and the traits of democracy, participation and solidarity characteristic of its status as a co-operative make Mondragón Unibertsitatea a serious, dynamic institution with a brilliant past and a bright future.
